About

About the Institute.

Sannvev Institute is a Canadian federal not-for-profit corporation, incorporated in April 2026 under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act. Its mission is to charter, steward, and publish open standards and reference implementations for auditable AI and information-integrity infrastructure.

Mission

To build and maintain the shared infrastructure — specifications, reference implementations, validation tooling, and governance — that lets AI and information systems be independently verified, audited, and trusted by the people and institutions that depend on them.

Operating model

The Institute operates on a foundation-and-projects model, similar in structure to the Apache Software Foundation, the Eclipse Foundation, and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. Standards and code are developed as chartered projects, each with a defined scope, license, governance structure, and funding source. A foundation-wide intellectual-property framework sets defaults; individual project charters tune terms where needed.

Most work is open source by default. The Institute does not build or sell commercial products; implementation services are provided by independent integrator partners operating under the Institute's standards.

Governance

Sannvev is governed by a Board of Directors (minimum 3, maximum 10 per its articles). The current board is the incorporating board; independent directors will be seated within the Institute's first six months. Officer appointments, bylaws, board resolutions, and the minute book are maintained in accordance with the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.

The Institute is a non-share-capital corporation: it has no owners, issues no equity, and distributes no profit. Surplus revenue is reinvested in the mission. On dissolution, assets transfer to qualified donees as specified in the articles.

Governance documents will be published on this page as adopted: bylaws, IP policy, trademark policy, project charters, advisor framework.

Leadership

Jordan Lane Peacock — Chair, Secretary, and Interim Treasurer.

Additional directors and officers will be listed as the independent-director transition completes.
